It’s for the situations that don’t fit a themed page - a custom prize list, a set of project ideas, vacation destinations, whatever you’re currently stuck choosing between.
How to Quickly Build Your Own Wheel
Getting from a blank list to a working wheel takes under a minute:
- Clear out the placeholder entries. The default “Option 1” through “Option 6” are just there so you can see the wheel working immediately - remove them with the X on each row, or hit “Clear all entries” to start from nothing.
- Type your own options one at a time. Enter each item into the entry box and hit Add; it appears on the wheel instantly with its own color.
- Recolor anything you want. Each entry has its own color swatch if you want specific items to stand out visually.
- Turn on “Remove winner after spin” if you don’t want repeats. Leave it off if every option should stay eligible for future spins.

Tips for Building Your Own Random Wheel
A few habits make a from-scratch wheel more useful, not just faster to build:
- Keep entries short. Long phrases get truncated on the wheel itself, so aim for a word or two per entry when you can.
- Double-check your list before spinning, especially for a group decision. A typo or an accidental duplicate is the most common reason a result looks “off.”
- Match elimination mode to what you’re actually deciding. One-time picks (like a single giveaway winner) usually want elimination on; repeatable questions (like “what should we watch tonight”) usually don’t.
- Save your list somewhere if you’ll reuse it. Since wheels reset on each visit for now, keeping a copy of a list you build often saves retyping it later.

Can I paste in a long list of items all at once?
Not yet - entries are added one at a time through the entry box, though a numeric range can be filled instantly with the "Generate a number range" option if you're working with numbers. Bulk-pasting a full list in one go is something we're looking at adding.
Is the randomization truly fair and unbiased?
Yes. Every entry takes up an equal-sized segment of the wheel by default, so each spin is a genuinely random, unweighted draw across your whole list, regardless of how many options you've added.
Can I save a wheel I've generated to use again later?
Saving and reloading a specific wheel setup is on our roadmap. For now, each visit starts from the default entries, so keep a note of your list if you plan to rebuild the same wheel next time.
How is this different from your other wheel pages (name picker, food picker, etc.)?
The themed pages come pre-loaded with starter entries and tips written for one specific use case, like picking a name or deciding what to eat. This page is the blank-slate version: generic placeholder entries you're meant to clear out and replace with whatever list you actually have, for situations none of the themed pages quite cover.
Is there a limit to how many items I can generate a wheel from?
There's no hard cap on manually typed entries, though wheels with a very large number of segments get harder to read. If you're generating a numeric range specifically, that tool caps at 200 numbers to keep the wedges legible.
